Single Parent Adoption

I'm sure you've heard it time without number how parenting alone is difficult, impossible, or unwise. It can be discouraging and may seem you have no chance at being the parent you would like to be.

Everywhere you go, you are given a hard time because you leave "spouse's name" blank on your application. It's not your fault; it's just how things are. Regardless of your current marital status, you just want to provide a home, love, and a parent to a child who has no one else to care for him or her.

Your philosophy is... why be picky when there are so many children out there that remain in the foster care system? You just want to help a child get out of the cycle of shuffling from foster home to foster home.

Why should it matter that you are divorced? Dating? Happily single? Already a single parent? "A parent is a parent," you say, "so why is it such a big deal? I can provide all a child could ever need or want; plus, I'm financially stable, not lacking anything I want. Why not allow a child to benefit from all of this?"

The issue here is based on health studies that have determined that children are better off in two-parent homes, with a mother and father.

There are several adoption agencies that will deny you the opportunity to adopt a child due to your single status. However, in these cases, your determination should be your crutch. If you believe parenting is something you want to venture into solo, that is your decision. Just keep in mind that your biggest critics may be your friends and family.
